London, Dec 18. – Professor Lorin of the University of Bordeaux says that to allow the United States to buy St. Pierre and Miquelon Islands would be to sign the death sentence of Canada. Newfoundland has already thrown in her lot with the Republic. A closer rapprochement between Newfoundland and Canada was not possible until the former had settled the French shore question. An honorable compromised was being delayed by Newfoundland politicians, who favor the Americans and desire the extinction of the French fisheries.
