The nesting season (2000) in SPM

for the second year in a row (JPD). The nest on S.W. Langlade was mentioned on

Black-legged Kittiwake :
I visited de colony at Cape Miquelon July 1 and estimated roughly 455 nests and
only 55 with young and 2 with eggs where up to 2000 pairs were known to nest a
few years ago. It seemed also less common on Colombier island 2 days later. On
July 16 MD noticed a few young almost adult size and very recently hatched young,
also on Colombier is.
Common Tern
: A pair nested on an islet in the middle
of a pond in St. Pierre where one young aged a few days was found on July 20.
Tern sp. : As usual they were numerous near a pond of
North-eastern Miquelon in June but abandoned the site later on. Cause ? JPD had

June 26. A few ¼tens‘ of pairs are nesting on the islet in Mirande lake as usual,

to species.
Belted Kingfisher :
There are six observations for St. Pierre between June 12 and July 25 (FPA/PA/PH/BL) without nesting evidence. One pair nested

as reported on the spring report was confirmed by a photo.
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher: Fairly common as usual, almost certainly
under reported (6 records only between June 1 and 22 (RE/PA).
Alder Flycatcher :
A NEW NESTING SPECIES. One male was singing near Mirande lake between June 20
and 29 then two males with fairly different songs which prompted me, one morning,
to return home to listen to tapes, suspecting a possible Willow Flycatcher which
was not the case. On July 28 one pair was still in the same area, calling at each
other and carrying food (RE).

3 and one in the town of St. Pierre June 9 (BL).

Golden-crowned Kinglet :
Probably under reported as well : One pair in St. Pierre June 12 (FPA) One male,
also in St. Pierre June 17.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet :
Although fairly common earlier in the season, is was possibly under reported although
I found it quite discrete except earlier in the season where it was singing everywhere.

The species has ALMOST DISAPPEARED here in the last few years. I recorded it only
5 times in Miquelon and once in Langlade between June 15 and July 10. Nobody else
